Here are other ways that your church can offer assistance to hurting people in Haiti:
1) PRAY - Pray for families who lost loved ones in the disaster. Pray for relief organizations. Pray for Dr. Steve James, Nurse Nancy James, and Scott Hunter, CBF field personnel in Haiti coordinating the efforts to help.
2) GIVE - Financial contributions are best thing everyone can give right now. Money will be needed in order to fund the relief needs. You can donate through the fund established by CBF Atlanta:
The official CBF giving channel for the Haiti Relief effort has been set up. You can give online Donate Haiti Relief or by sending a check to Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, P.O. Box 101699, Atlanta, GA 30392, indicating fund No. 17015 "Haiti Response."
You may make you contributions through Abingdon Baptist Church by indicating "Haiti Relief" on your check or envelope. These designated funds will be sent 100% to the CBF Haiti Relief effort.
3) GO - In time many, many persons will be needed in the long-term efforts Cooperative Baptists and partners will engage in. Varying skills will be needed. Medical personnel and people to help with collection and distribution of supplies.
Chris Boltin, short term assignments and partnerships manager at the CBF Resource Center in Atlanta, offered this word: "We need to hear from you so that when specific projects are identified, we will be able to quickly match the need with the resource." Those interested in serving in Haiti should visit CBF Disaster-Response-Application to list their skills and experience. The first teams will be deploying as early as next week. You can also contact the national CBF office at 800-352-8741 for more information on volunteering.
You can follow the continuing developments at CBF Portal on Haiti Response.
